FAQ: How far from the wall must furniture be placed in order to achieve a full reclining position?
The distance will depend upon the back height and the specific reclining mechanism, but as a general rule, you will need 4-6" for all non-rocking sofas, loveseats, and "wall saver" recliners, 12-14" for all swivel gliders, and 14-16" for all rocking mechanisms. Distance is measured from the top back rail of the piece of furniture.
